Samenvatting:

During the golden age of Mesopotamia, peace reigns among the great kingdoms. Yet small tribes begin to grow in strength, launching raids against lesser-established villages, and at times even against the larger realms. One of the most notorious rising powers is the Sumerians. They are on the march and will settle for nothing less than turning their neighbors into subjects. They conquer lands from the ruling Babylonians and their adversaries, the Persians. But in the southern Assyrian desert lies a city spared from barbaric incursions. There, a stern yet just king has mastered the art of diplomacy. Not only has he managed to keep external affairs at bay through peaceful means and instilled calm among his people, but he has also succeeded in keeping his soldiers content and his citizens well-fed. In this city lives a modest, middle-aged nobleman. His family and lineage have, for generations, played a role in the political sphere. Over time, they have cultivated a strong reputation among the upper echelons through wise counsel to the king. But when the reigning monarch suddenly dies, his younger brother seizes power, and everything changes overnight. The arbitrary bond with the nobility is severed, and the humble nobleman is forced to flee the city with two chosen servants. The escape into the harsh and inhospitable desert becomes a trial of endurance. As the journey unfolds, suspicion begins to grow. Can he truly trust his two companions? When a woman in distress joins their company, everything comes to a head.
