A coming-of-age ritual forces five young friends to leave their hidden city and embark into the warring realms of men. Sisters Bellanque and Devona are ready to take their test, but when a prophecy predicts their doom their childhood friends decide that they'd rather defy tradition than risk the witches lives. Macadimus, an exiled Clansman, and Jeroth, the errant son of an upyre lord travel after the two as they explore the world outside of their valley only to find that they may be falling into the prophecy after all.
