Samenvatting:

Fleeing from the ruins of Troy following the war, Aeneas leads the Trojan fleet in search of a new homeland. Both supported and thwarted by the gods, the survivors sail across the Mediterranean, stopping in many cities and encountering trouble in each one. After a fateful encounter with the Queen of Carthage, Aeneas and his people arrive in Latium where the Trojan hero becomes the founder of Rome.

Written between 29 and 19 BC, The Aeneid is Virgil’s answer to Homer’s epic poems, focusing on the fall of Troy and the travels of his hero Aeneas. Many of the characters and stories in the poem, such as the tragic queen Dido and the tale of the Trojan Horse, have inspired artists and musicians across centuries.
