As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Aiki Kai Australia in 2015 held a forum attended by senior women instructors from around the globe. The women shared their experiences of training in a martial art that has significantly more male practitioners than women. They discussed ways in which aikido could be more open, equal, positive and welcoming to both sexes. This book is an extension of the conversations held at the forum, giving the contributors both a voice and a wider audience. I found editing this book to be a worthwhile challenge. The book has stories that are deeply personal, thoughtful and instructive. I believe it will make a difference to women in aikido.
