Samenvatting:

his edition features a modern bibliography to help today's student of the text. The term "Mabinogion" was invented by Lady Charlotte Guest in the 19th century and refers to her collection of eleven prose narratives taken from a variety of medieval Welsh manuscripts. The Welsh prose tales were written down in the Middle Ages but are tales that retell earlier pre-Christian tales of Celtic mythology featuring heroes and Gods such as Rhiannon, Branwen, Pwyll and Lludd. Some of the narratives also feature Arthur and may represent source material for the Arthurian legend that is earlier than Geoffrey of Monmouth or Chretien de Troyes.
