One of the three spiritual homes of the elite Corps of Marines, along with a sister Depot in South Carolina and the Officers Candidate School in Virginia, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego holds a special place in the hearts of Marines as well as those who support and admire them. This work, more entertaining than scholarly, details the over 100 years that a Marine Corps presence in San Diego has contributed to the national defense, the San Diego Community, and changed the trajectory of the lives of well over two million Marines.
