In My India, My America Vinit Asar recounts his childhood in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, a rich family history that includes warriors and entrepreneurs, and a career that took him around the world and back again. Formative experiences in Bombay provide a backdrop for the biggest gamble of his life: his decision to move to the United States. In this deeply personal memoir Asar reflects on cultural transitions, professional growth, and family dynamics, and details not just his achievements, including his tenure as CEO, but also the challenges he's faced. As its title suggests, Asar's book is not just a love letter to the country where he was born and raised but also to the one in which he now lives.
Vinit Asar was born in Bombay, India in 1966. When he was 20, he moved to the US, where he got an undergraduate degree at Aquinas College and a graduate degree at Lehigh University. During an 18-year stint at Johnson & Johnson, he worked in four different cities in the US and three in Europe. After leaving J&J, he served as the CEO and executive chairman of Hanger Inc., the world's leading provider of orthotic and prosthetic care, until he retired in 2025. He currently lives with his wife in Austin, Texas, where he serves on public company boards and volunteers with several local institutions.
