In 1992 the Theater Instituut Nederland established the Theatre Poster Prize to bring attention, amongst other things, to the extremely high standard of Dutch theatre poster design. The most important consideration of the jury when selecting the winners of these awards is that the poster must be striking; it has to grab the attention in whatever way it can. it may be intriguing, daring, threatening or shocking, it may be atmospheric or poetic, simple or clear, or just beautiful. The attention-grabbing immediacy of the images displayed within the book have the power to constantly surprise and provoke. At the very least they demand a response from the viewer. This text showcases over 100 nominated and award-winning posters.
