Samenvatting:

As the centrifugal forces of modern life become ever stronger and more chaotic, the example of the Amish, or plain people, who try to maintain a deliberate, religiously-focused, community-oriented life, becomes increasingly fascinating. Amish Style presents the artifacts of a representative group of Amish from northern Indiana. Examples of these cultural artifacts and art are presented within the context of Amish lives, including photographs of Amish community activities. The Indiana State Museum's Pottinger Amish Collection was the springboard for this book. This collection is as complete a gathering of Amish artifacts as exists anywhere in the world. It includes quilts, sewing tools, clothing for men, women, and children, home furnishings, toys, dolls, and other items found in and around Amish communities in northern Indiana.
