Samenvatting:

The 1960 election of John Fitzgerald Kennedy offers the promise of a new enlightenment in American politics, but behind the scenes, the President's tawdry personal life involving dalliances with all manner of women including prostitutes, raises concerns amongst some members of the intelligence community tasked with defending America. The attempted Bay of Pigs invasion, the erection of the Berlin Wall, and the defection of a once-close ally, Kim Philby adds to the paranoia that is the cold war as viewed through the lens of James Jesus Angleton, chief of counterintelligence at the CIA. For Angleton, it's simply not a question of policy and politics but rather a continuous gut-wrenching search for the communist moles he believes have imbedded themselves in the American intelligence establishment. Self-doubt about his own role only augments a growing fear that the most dangerous mole of all resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
