The authors formulate a new theoretical concept of psychoanalysis, keeping in mind the development of the last 20 years in the field and concentrating on the interplay between emotion and cognition. Concrete issues like dreaming are studied with the help of computer simulation and artificial intelligence.



This book considers psychoanalytic modelling and focuses on the cognitive-affective processes. The authors defend the thesis that the introduction of new concepts and new technology such as computer simulation are only meaningful when they go beyond the codification of existing verbal theories and uncover new insights and new dimensions. The book first discusses applied artificial intelligence and cognitive science in general and then introduces two computer simulation models: one on neurotic processes against conflict, the second on the origin of dream processes.
