‘The way in which you use this book depends on how much you know about the subject. If you have previously been aware only of the kind of Sun-sign astrology you read about in magazines, it will be best for you to start at the very beginning with “The Astronomical Background” (see p.14). You will certainly know something about the signs of the zodiac (see p.24), but “The Solar System” (see p.20) may well open out the subject for you.

If you already know something about solar system astronomy and astrology, then turn to “Calculating the Birth Chart” (see p.98); if you follow the instructions, using the tables at the back of the book when needed, you should end up with your first complete chart.

Now you must learn how to interpret a chart — perhaps after drawing several charts to make sure you are in command of that technique. Start with “Interpreting the Birth Chart” (see p.192). Having mastered that, move on to “Interpreting the Progressions”’ (see p.203).

Set out like this, your journey through the book may sound easy; however, you will find that the more time you are able to give to it, the more completely you will be in command of the material. You will find that as you work your way through the sections, unless you are very well aware of the
