Samenvatting:

The German artist Amelie von Wulffen, who was born in 1966 and now lives in Berlin, accomplished her breakthrough into the international art scene with presentations at the 50th Venice Biennale and Manifesta 5. Her collages, drawings, and photographic overlays are the products of experiments in biographical investigation and reconstruction. Expressive of profound longing, traumatic spaces, ruins, and objects of memory span an imaginary web of coordinates between Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, John Travolta, and her own grandmother in which she consistently emphasizes the historical dimensions of her autobiographical experience. Amelie von Wulffen appropriates avant-garde techniques in her poetic blending of divergent realities. Illustrated throughout with full-color reproductions, this book presents both early series and very recent works by the artist.nnExhibition schedule: Kunstmuseum Basel, Museum f?r Gegenwartskunst, August 20-October 16, 2005 ?
